FUNCTIONAL BREATHING:
Breathing Behaviour Analysis & Retraining
When you understand your breathing as behaviour, everything changes.
What if the missing piece in your wellness puzzle is the way your breathing has habituated to manage stress, pain and expectations?
Are you tired of spending time and energy treating symptoms? Want more capacity, improved recovery, and a trusting relationship with your body? Supported by measurable data and your developing self-awareness, this natural, body-based solution can be the key to unlocking optimal breathing for improved capacity, performance, and wellbeing.

Are you experiencing on-going health challenges in any of these areas?
-
Mental/emotional/psychological: Brain fog, disorganized, forgetful, depression, anxiety, poor self-esteem, poor focus, performance anxiety, personality shifts
-
Respiratory/cardiovascular: Shortness of breath, chest pressure, tightness and pain, asthma, palpitations, tachycardia, arrhythmias, angina, high blood pressure, worried about your breathing
-
Muscles/performance: Spasm, chronic tension, weakness, trembling, difficulty swallowing, peripheral tingling/numbness, slow recovery, incoordination, poor balance, slow reaction and perceptual judgement, blurry vision
-
Autonomic stress/digestive: Fatigue, irritability, headache, sudden mood swings, dissociation, confusion, hallucinations, dizziness and fainting, nausea, vomiting, irritable bowel, insomnia, sleep apnea, post-concussion syndrome, unexplained illness during pregnancy
If you answered yes to a few of these, dysfunctional breathing habits may be keeping you stuck.

Hypocapnia: A big breath isn’t always a good breath.
Breathing is automatic and controllable. When responding to emotional or physical stress, we may over breathe to manage the moment. This immediately lowers arterial CO2 levels, known as hypocapnia, adversely affecting cellular oxygen perfusion (that is, the ability of the oxygen to absorb from the blood stream into the cells to make energy). Low CO2 also creates vasoconstriction of the blood vessels lowering oxygen delivery to the tissues and affecting tone and efficacy. This is why dysfunctional breathing can affect multiple body systems simultaneously. If you have clusters of these symptoms, it’s likely that dysfunctional breathing behaviours/habits are involved.

Are you ready to reset your breath?
Learn through science and self-awareness.
Step 1:
Measure
During the initial assessment session, we will review your medical history and measure CO2 using the CapnoTrainer GO and specialized software to identify breathing habits and their histories and provide short-term recovery tools.
Step 2:
Learn
We will review progress and fine tune body and breath-based tools, develop increasing awareness, begin breath retraining and create a plan to optimize your respiration.
Step 3:
Optimize
Sessions build on one another and focus on building awareness of behavioural triggers and rewards that are causing and strengthening negative breathing habits. You will learn to optimize moment-to-moment breathing so you can take charge of your health.
