Service Description
Are your clients' breathing habits keeping them stuck in chronic pain cycles? Breathing is more than a relaxation tool - it influences pain, nervous system regulation, movement, and recovery. This workshop explores the psychophysiology of breathing and how dysfunctional breathing patterns can contribute to persistent pain. You'll leave with evidence-informed knowledge and practical strategies to help clients develop greater awareness of their breathing and support more effective recovery. Ideal for a wide range of health professionals, including counsellors and psychotherapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, osteopaths, registered massage therapists, movement professionals who incorporate breath into their practice, and breathwork practitioners. Key Takeaways • Recognize the signs and symptoms of hypocapnia and identify three common breathing habit types that can perpetuate chronic pain cycles. • Understand how breathing chemistry, mechanics, and psychology interact to influence pain, stress, and recovery. • Dispel common misconceptions and learn why breathing interventions are not one-size-fits-all. • Learn practical strategies to help clients build awareness of their breathing patterns and support meaningful behaviour change. • Develop an embodied understanding through a blend of evidence-informed theory, case studies, and experiential practices. About your facilitator: Joy Onyschak is a Certified Breathing Behaviour Analyst (The Professional School of Behavioral Sciences). She weaves the art and science of breathing behaviour analysis and retraining into her somatic practice to support her clients' journey to nervous system resilience after trauma and chronic stress.
